Ceramic art for everyday use, and one-of-a-kind finds
IOKA = Welcome!
A well-weathered sign hung over the door of our little cottage on the Westport River at my grandfather’s dairy farm. “IOKA”, it read. Translated from the indigenous MA tribe native to the area, IOKA means “Welcome”. I spent summer weekends here with my family as a child, and formed some of my happiest memories at this blissful place. I like to think much of my creativity springs from this time and place in my life, when my mind was free to wander and wonder.
Serendipity is the order of the day in my studio. I create pottery because I learn (and perhaps teach) something new each day. My greatest joy is sitting down with 50 pounds of clay, playing with form, and discovering the variations and possibilities held within.
